Papyrus, the precursor to paper, was stored in scrolls and these scrolls were the books of ancient Egypt. Egyptians created a 12 month, 365 day calendar with seasonal cycles. Egyptians doctors wrote the health issues out and created potions and cures for illnesses. Wooden sailboats constructed to increase transportation on the Nile. Cataracts- rapids 4100 miles- Nile river The pyramids were massive tombs made out of marble until stripped by Muslim conquest. The temple of Amon at Karnark is the largest religious building.

Western Civ

Today I made up my quiz on Mesopotamia and it was matching and the multiple choice. Then we sat quietly and waited for everyone else to take the test. Then we took notes about Upper Egypt which is actually south and Lower Egypt which is north because the Nile runs South to North. They had pharaoh's and we looked at how they were mummified and preserved when they died and they had their organs in a preservative for them when they went to the afterlife. The afterlife could take you to a place where you are eaten by a monster or go to a paradise. We also learned that they had gods that took animal form or animal body or animal head. The Pharaoh's job was to sacrifice the right things for the gods when they needed it.

Western Civ Make-Up Day

I was out the past days and was sick so today I read up on Egypt and took notes. I also started studying for the Mesopotamia Quiz I am taking tomorrow. I learned that the Nile cause good things and bad things to the Egyptians. It helped flood the soil which made it very rich but at the same time when there wasn't enough water people starved from the drought. The deserts around Egypt created natural barriers for the Egyptians. The river also provided transportation for the people. The Egyptians believed and worshiped Pharaohs and that was their government. They buried the dead pharaohs in pyramids and they also mummified them which is preserving their bodies. As Egyptians they developed calendars and believed in an afterlife.
