Polis- fundamental political unit

Aristocracy- small group of nobles ruling together
Oligarchy- ruled by a few powerful people
Tyrant- One person who took power usually liked back then unlike today
Democracy- ruled by the people
Helot- peasants forced to be slaves
Phalanx- side by side formation used in wars with spears
Persian Wars- wars between the Greek and the Persian Empires
